A survivor-led domestic abuse charity in Barnsley has launched a Christmas appeal to make sure every woman it supports has something just for her this festive season.
Resolute Women’s Support Services, founded by domestic abuse survivor Deborah Jones, is collecting toiletries and self-care gifts throughout November for women who are rebuilding their lives after domestic abuse.
The Comfort & Care appeal runs from 1 to 30 November 2026. The charity is asking for shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sanitary products, hand cream and gift sets.
For many women, leaving an abusive relationship means starting again with very little of their own. Everyday essentials that others take for granted can be out of reach, particularly when women are also dealing with housing difficulties, financial hardship and the long-term effects of abuse.
Resolute believes something as simple as a woman’s own toiletries can restore dignity, care, and a sense of normality, and remind her she is not facing Christmas alone.
Support rooted in lived experience
Resolute was established in 2021 by Deborah Jones, whose own experience of domestic abuse highlighted gaps in the support available to survivors. The organisation became a registered charity in 2023.
From its support centre, The Lotus, on Regent Street South in Barnsley town centre, Resolute offers one-to-one support, advocacy, counselling, EMDR therapy, peer support groups and wellbeing activities, helping women move forward at their own pace.
The Comfort & Care appeal will help the charity extend that care into the Christmas period, a time that can feel especially difficult for women who are starting over.
Deborah Jones, founder and CEO of Resolute Women’s Support Services, said:
“I know from my own experience how hard it can be to start again with very little. Christmas can feel especially lonely when you’re rebuilding your life.
“A gift of everyday essentials might seem small, but for the women we support it means something much bigger. It tells them they matter and that people in their community are standing with them.
“We’re asking everyone in Barnsley who can to get behind the Comfort & Care appeal. Every donation, however small, will help us make sure every woman we support has something just for her this Christmas.”
How to donate
To arrange a donation, people can email teamresolute@resolutesupport.uk or message Resolute on social media, and the team will arrange drop-off.
Resolute is also inviting businesses, schools, workplaces and community groups across Barnsley and South Yorkshire to run a collection on its behalf. People who unable donate can help by sharing the appeal online using #ComfortAndCare.
The appeal runs alongside Resolute’s Save The Lotus Crowdfunder, which aims to raise £20,000 by 16 November 2026 to keep its support centre open. Donations can be made at crowdfunder.co.uk/p/save-the-lotus.
